Seabed mining bid lays bare EEZ Act flaws

The public gallery of the Supreme Court was packed this week as 20 counsel appeared before five justices to try and hammer out the validity or otherwise of Trans-Tasman Resources’ consent to mine the seabed off the coast from Patea.More than 50 people, many from Taranaki iwi, watched the proceedings from in the court while extra seating was provided in the lobby for others to watch by video.
