We are not on track to meet our targets. That was the pointed statement issued in the Climate Change Commission’s final report advising how Aotearoa New Zealand can meet its 2050 targets. Those being, net zero for long-lived emissions, and at least a 24% drop in biogenic methane emissions – the short-lived gas produced by decomposing food waste in landfill, wetlands and the belches of NZ’s 10 million odd cattle.
