On paper, it shouldn’t have been this hard.Going into the 2017 election, Labour, the Greens and NZ First were all advocating action to increase government use of EVs. NZ First wanted all government vehicles electric by 2026. The Greens even wanted to scrap fringe benefit tax on EVs to encourage their take-up by companies – the biggest buyers of new cars.Labour and the Greens were also backing increased forestry planting on lower value land to help soak up emissions.
