Methanex to cut production amid gas shortage

Methanex has put on hold a major maintenance shutdown at its Waitara Valley plant due to concerns about declining gas supplies from the offshore Pohokura field.The firm, which also operates two production units at its nearby Motunui site, had planned to carry out the work – necessary to recertify the plant for another three-to-five years' operation – in the first quarter.While Waitara Valley, the smaller of the three plants is operating now, BusinessDesk understands it will shut when its certification expires early next year.
