Two long-serving National party backbench MPs won't contest next year’s election.In separate statements this morning, David Bennett and Ian McKelvie said they would stand down at the 2023 general election.McKelvie, who has been the MP for Rangitikei since 2011, said he’d spent 20 years in public service – first as the mayor of Manawatū – and described the role as an “honour and a privilege”.
