The Christchurch city council have voted to lock in a fixed price of $683 million for the city’s new multi-use arena – Te Kaha – by 13 votes to three.This means the council will spend an extra $150m to be recouped through a rates increase.As part of today’s vote, the council committed to a design and construction contract to get construction underway by the end of the year.Mayor Lianne Dalziel said Christchurch was the largest city in the South Island and it should have a multi-use arena where top international acts coul...
