KiwiRail will pay €228 million ($403m) to replace its ageing South Island locomotive fleet, confirming an order for 57 locomotives built by Stadler Rail Valencia.The Spanish-built diesel/electric powered narrow gauge locomotives will replace the current 65-strong fleet over a three year period from 2024.
