Now that the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s rate-easing cycle appears to be over, the focus has shifted to the first hike. The Reserve Bank of NZ (RBNZ) took markets by surprise last week when it adopted a slightly more hawkish tone in the latest monetary policy statement.While it retained a slight easing bias, outgoing RBNZ governor Christian Hawkesby said the official cash rate (OCR) is unlikely to fall any further. It is currently 2.25%.Before the meeting, markets and many economists had expected at least one more rate cut in 2026....
