ELECTION 2020: Ardern extends election date to Oct 17

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced a four-week extension to the election campaign period by moving the date of the general election from Sept. 19 to Oct. 17 — nine weeks away. The postponement delays voting day by twice the amount of time lost to election campaigning due to a national lockdown caused by an Auckland outbreak of covid-19.
