Bathurst Resources is closing its Canterbury mine after failing to secure regulatory approvals for its ongoing operation.The mine at Coalgate, 70 kilometres west of Christchurch, currently supplies about 100,000 tonnes of low-sulphur coal annually, most of it to Fonterra and other local industrial users.The company bought additional land in 2019 to extend the life of the operation by about 13 years to 2035 and has spent the past two years working with Environment Canterbury and the Selwyn District Council to develop a long-term plan for the pro...
