BUDGET 2021: Infrastructure funding gets 50% boost

The budget allocated more than $300m to upgrade NZ’s strategically important Scott Base, Antarctica, to keep it operational.

The stronger-than-expected government books released today are allowing a 50% increase in total funding for new public infrastructure.“At the beginning of this parliamentary term, we already had $42.2 billion on the books for infrastructure investment over the next four years,” said Grant Robertson, the finance minister.“Budget 2021 lifts that investment to $57.3b of Crown spending on infrastructure from 2021 to 2025” with the multi-year allowance for new capital spending rising from $8b to $12b.Some $3.9b of that fundin...
