Freightways couriers park up over ‘unsafe’ practices

More than 70 Freightways contract couriers walked off the job on Tuesday in protest at what they say are practices that breach health and safety laws.Drivers for brands such as New Zealand Couriers claim they are forced to work to the point of exhaustion to meet Freightways’ requirements.They have invoked Section 83 of the Health and Safety at Work Act, which says a worker may cease or refuse to carry out work if they believe to do so would expose them or others to risk.Driver advocacy group ProDrive said it had been dealing with publicly...
