The Commerce Commission is proposing that the sector’s four leading companies should collectively pay about 87% of this year’s $11.25 million Telecommunications Development Levy.Under the Telecommunications Act, companies earning more than $10m in gross revenue from internet, mobile and data services are required to help pay for such services as rural broadband, the deaf relay service and improvements to the 111 emergency service.The commission decides each liable provider’s levy share in proportion to their qualified revenue...
