Mercer Group automation acquisition almost doubles earnings

Mercer Group almost doubled its first-half earnings on the back of its expanded automation activities. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose 82 percent to $1.1 million for the six months ended Dec. 31, while net profit rose to $447,000 from $227,000 a year earlier. The improvement to earnings was due to the March 2019 acquisition of the Milmeq Chilling and Freezing business, which automates the chilling and freezing of meat, poultry and cheese.
