ComCom recommends rural copper network deregulation

The Commerce Commission has recommended the deregulation of the rural copper network in New Zealand.Telecommunications Commissioner Tristan Gilbertson said that advancements in technology have made copper regulation unnecessary for promoting competition.He noted that many rural consumers are now transitioning to cheaper and better-performing alternatives, with less than a third still using copper.The decision to remove copper regulation rests with the Minister for Media and Communications.If the recommendation is approved, it would allow Chorus...
