Meridian signs peak demand agreement with Tiwai Point operator

New Zealand's largest electricity company, Meridian Energy, has struck a deal with NZ’s aluminium smelter (NZAS) to reduce energy use at the Tiwai Point plant at times of high demand and narrow supply.“The agreement will allow Meridian to require NZAS to reduce its consumption of electricity at the Tiwai Point Smelter by up to 20MW [megawatts] for up to four trading periods a day and up to 20 trading periods over a fortnight to reduce pressure on the electricity system over peak periods,” Meridian told the NZ stock exchang...
