The value of cash trading on NZX rose 22 percent to $4.36 billion in May for an average daily value of $208 million. And the volume of trading more than doubled to 1.04 million.
The majority of that activity was in equities, with $4.22 billion, and importantly for the stock market operator, more of that trading was on-market at 69.9 percent, well up on the 52.4 percent in May 2019.
The 3,045 trades on the debt market were 13.9 percent higher than a year earlier, while the $144 million value traded was up 1.6 percent.
Some $1.58 billion of new capital was raised in May. Of that, $1.28 billion was secondary capital raisings, of which $702 million was new equity for NZ issuers.
