Overseas visitor arrivals edging up to pre-pandemic numbers

According to new data from Stats New Zealand, the Chinese New Year boosted tourism in late summer.Overseas visitor arrivals were 370,200 in January, an increase of 43,800 from the same month in 2024.“The increase in overseas visitor arrivals from China coincided with the Chinese New Year, which began on January 29,” Stats NZ said.More than one-third of that increase was due to 15,200 extra Chinese tourists, although all major markets sent more visitors to NZ than they did a year earlier.
