NZ dollar holds gains ahead of US funding bill, seen losing ground on 'rate-hiking' Fed

By Jonathan Underhill Feb. 9 (BusinessDesk) - The New Zealand dollar held onto some of its gains, having weakened yesterday after the Reserve Bank kept rates on hold as traders await the progress of a bipartisan funding bill in the US to keep the federal government open. The kiwi traded at 72.12 US cents as at 5pm in Wellington from 71.90 cents late yesterday to be down 1.2 percent from 73.02 cents a week ago. The trade-weighted index advanced to 74.38 from 74.01 yesterday.
