Contact Energy and Meridian Energy say there has been strong and encouraging international interest in their green hydrogen project idea.This comes as papers show Australian mining company Fortescue has been working for more than a year to get the New Zealand government interested in similar plans.Last month, Contact and Meridian unveiled their proposals for a hydrogen or ammonia plant in Southland to replace the electricity load demand if the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter closes in 2024.
