Govt to spend $6m a week beefing up air freight capacity

The government will spend about $6 million a week to help boost air freight capacity coming into and out of the country. Transport Minister Phil Twyford today announced the scheme to help underwrite cargo capacity on key air routes. That funding then enables carriers to negotiate commercial terms with freight customers. The scheme is part of the government’s $330 million aviation package to ensure important freight routes are maintained. Twyford sought proposals a little over a month ago.
