Looming 'clean car' tax accelerates uptake of gas guzzlers

Sales of light commercial vehicles jumped to 4,871 units last month, up 29% compared to last February, as buyers bought ahead of clean car taxes taking effect next month.The Motor Industry Association (MIA) said this helped push overall new car and truck sales to their highest level for any February at 12,551 units.The Clean Car programme, brought in July 1 last year, has to date only applied to rebates for electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids.
