Like most parts of the New Zealand media, magazine publishers are struggling. According to a recent report from distribution business Are Direct, which sends magazines to retail stands around the country, unit sales were down 10% in the year to Sept 3 and down 13% in the three months to the same date, compared to the same period last year.The sales slump was inevitable in a slowing economy, with sharply rising interest rates and falling house prices eroding disposable income and consumer confidence over the past year. Discretionary sp...
