Consumer confidence up but good times yet to roll for retailers

Consumer confidence rose in the latest ANZ-Roy Morgan survey, with a lift in perceptions of future conditions.But the rise does not necessarily mean good times are on the way for the retail sector, ANZ economists said.Inflation expectations rose for a second month, up from 4.3% to 4.5%.Perceptions of current personal financial situations were unchanged at –12%, which ANZ said is still low but much higher than a year ago.A net 18% of respondents expected to be better off this time next year, down 1 point from the previous survey.Read more...
