Retail card spending climbs for third month

Cardholders made a total of 174 million transactions across all industries in August 2025, with economists saying improvement is "in train".The total amount spent using electronic cards was $9.3 billion, with an average value of $54 per transaction made.According to Stats New Zealand data from August 2025 compared with July 2025, spending in retail industries had increased by 0.7%, or $45m.Spending in the core retail industries increased by $55m (0.9%).This marks the third consecutive monthly increase for retail.'Still lower'R...
