Slavery is more prevalent now than ever before in human history. There are around 50 million people trapped in servitude worldwide, and some 3000 of them are in New Zealand. A panel at last week’s Responsible Investment Association Australasia conference in Auckland said New Zealand is playing catch-up to other countries, such as Australia, which brought in the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act in 2019. Last year, more than 100 businesses signed an open letter to the NZ government asking it to investigate laws against modern slave...
