Chatham Rock Phosphate Limited, a New Zealand based company, has applied for an Exploration Permit in Queensland, Australia, to explore for selenium, a trace mineral essential for plant and animal health.
The permit, named EMP28676, covers an area of 19.6 sq km in the Richmond-Hughenden region and is centred on the local grazing/farming property of “Gunnerside” Station.
Selenium is a key component of many of our everyday technologies, and is also necessary for human life.
Selenium deficient soils are prevalent in Queensland, New South Wales and West Australia.
Chatham Rock Phosphate's wholly owned Australian subsidiary Pacific Rare Earths has made the application.
