The Commerce Commission has rejected a call for an inquiry into airport regulation, following a request from Air New Zealand.
The commission conducted a targeted assessment of airport regulation and determined that an inquiry was not necessary and could lead to increased costs for the sector.
Auckland Airport welcomed the decision, emphasising the importance of effective and stable regulation for ongoing private investment in critical infrastructure.
The commission will now proceed with a review of information disclosure requirements for major airport investment, which is expected to take place next year.
The government has also reaffirmed that changes to Part 4 of the Commerce Act are not currently being considered and will not be part of the upcoming amendments.
