Genesis has reported a 52% increase in thermal generation for the first quarter of the 2025 financial year.

The company's Huntly portfolio, which includes coal, gas, and diesel, played a crucial role in New Zealand's energy security during the winter period.

Despite heavy coal consumption, Genesis said its stockpile levels increased, with 11 shipments delivered to Auckland and Tauranga ports.

Customer numbers also increased modestly, up 0.4% in the same period.

In terms of its Gen35 strategy, Genesis announced the purchase of a 65% stake in EV charging infrastructure operator, Chargenet, and provided updates on the construction of the Lauriston solar farm and the development of the Huntly battery and Edgecumbe solar farm.
