Genesis Energy has announced that their Huntly Unit 5 combined cycle gas plant outage is expected to be extended until late May 2024 due to the need to manufacture circuit breaker components internationally.

The financial impact of the event is estimated to be between $20 million and $30 million, however, high hydro storage, alternative plant availability and wholesale electricity market conditions have helped to mitigate the impact.

Genesis is actively pursuing options to return the unit to service earlier and has insurance cover in place.

Updates on the return to service of the unit will be provided through the Transpower Planned Outage Coordination Process (POCP).
