Meridian Energy has reported a decrease in national hydro storage and lower national electricity demand for the month of December 2024.

According to the company's monthly operating report, national hydro storage dropped from 134% to 114% of the historical average.

In the South Island, storage decreased to 112% of the average, while in the North Island, it increased to 126% of the average.

Meridian's total inflows for December 2024 were 97% of the historical average.

The company's Waitaki catchment water storage was at 135% of the historical average, while the Waiau catchment water storage was at 98% of the average.

Meridian's retail sales volumes in December 2024 were 2.6% higher than the same month last year.

However, national electricity demand in December 2024 was 3.2% lower than in December 2023.
