SkyCity's Auckland casino is to close for five days in an agreement to settle the Secretary of Internal Affairs' application to temporarily suspend its casino operator's licence.

The secretary made the application in September 2023, after a complaint by a former customer who gambled at the casino from August 2017 to February 2021.

SkyCity Casino Management Limited (SCML) acknowledged that it did not meet the requirement in the SkyCity Auckland Host Responsibility Programme (HRP) relating to detecting incidents of continuous play by the customer.

The agreement is conditional on the consent of the Gambling Commission to withdraw the suspension application.

SkyCity said the closure of the gambling area is expected to have an impact of around $5 million on its underlying group ebitda in the 2025 financial year.

As a result, the company has revised its early outlook guidance for FY25.

It now expects underlying group ebitda to be between $245m and $265m, compared to the previous guidance of $250m to $270m.

SkyCity highlighted its commitment to host responsibility and ongoing efforts to improve risk systems.

The date of the closure, which will be from Monday to Friday, will be agreed between SCML and the secretary.
