Port of Tauranga has received an interim decision from the Environment Court regarding its planned Sulphur Point wharf extension.

The court has granted resource consent for Stage 1 of the project, which involves the construction of 285 metres of additional berth to the south of the port's existing container berths.

However, the consent for Stage 2 of the wharf extension, as well as the proposed works at the Mount Maunganui wharves, has been reserved.

The court has requested further information before making a decision on these aspects of the project.
