Comvita, the global market leader in Mānuka honey, is pleased to announce that its in-house honey testing laboratory has been awarded accreditation under the International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) Laboratory Accreditation Programme. The laboratory has also been formally recognised by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to perform honey testing under section 101 of the Animal Products Act 1999. Comvita is the first, and only, Mānuka honey company to hold this dual certification, a testament to the high quality and expertise of its laboratory services and staff.

Dr Jackie Evans, Comvita’s Chief Science Officer, says, "Comvita has invested heavily in its laboratory technology and scientific expertise over the last decade to develop our world-class honey testing facility and this independent accreditation demonstrates our excellence in research, laboratory and quality services. Dual IANZ and MPI accreditation is generally reserved for large specialist commercial testing and diagnostic laboratories, so achieving this recognition for our in-house laboratory is a fantastic achievement for our team and another example of our industry leadership in science.

"This dual accreditation allows Comvita to export product to our markets around the world using our own internal laboratory results. Removing our reliance on third-party commercial testing laboratories provides our business with greater flexibility reducing both time and cost but at the same time enabling us to exceed, our markets and consumer’s expectations. This independent, internationally recognised accreditation, also gives our consumers further confidence that when they purchase Comvita products that they have been thoroughly tested, are authentic and of the highest quality.” says Dr Evans.

This industry first recognition further emphasises and differentiates Comvita’s unique business model from all other companies operating in the sector and ensures that it’s unique quality, assurance and science programme continues to build long term consumer trust.

Ends.

Background information
Comvita (NZX:CVT) was founded in 1974, with a purpose to heal and protect the world through the natural power of the hive. With a team of 500+ people globally, united with more than 1.6 billion bees, we are the global market leader in Mānuka honey and bee consumer goods. Seeking to understand, but never to alter, we test and verify all our bee-product ingredients are of the highest quality in our own government-recognised and accredited laboratory. We are growing industry scientific knowledge on bee welfare, Mānuka trees and the many benefits of Mānuka honey and propolis. We have pledged to be carbon neutral by 2025 and carbon positive by 2030, and we are planting more than two million native trees every year. Comvita has operations in Australia, China, North America, South East Asia, and Europe – and of course, Aotearoa New Zealand, where our bees are thriving.
