- DPMC serves ministers responsible for national security, risk and resilience, and the regeneration of greater Christchurch.
- Assists the Prime Minister in issues of responsibility, wider government business, and administrative support.
- Supports central government through services to the Executive Council, Cabinet, and Cabinet committees, advice to the Governor-General, Prime Minister, and other ministers on constitutional, policy, and procedural issues, especially those in the Cabinet Manual.
- Co-ordinates the government’s legislative programme, administers the honours system and honours lists, ensures communication between the Governor-General and the government, and has oversight of Government House.
