- The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment has broad powers to investigate environmental concerns, independent from the Ministry for the Environment and government, and reports to Parliament as a whole through the Speaker of the House and the Officers of Parliament Committee.
- Commissioners are appointed for five years.
