- Chair of Apec 2021 senior officials’ meeting and chief negotiator for the free-trade agreement with the European Union.
- Previously the chief negotiator of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and before that sealed the Asean-Australia-NZ Free Trade Agreement and the Malaysia-NZ Free Trade Agreement, and was NZ’s permanent representative to the WTO in Geneva.
- Has also been the ambassador to the European Union and NATO in Brussels and was posted to Canberra and Moscow.
