New Zealand should ban imports of new petrol and diesel cars no later than 2035 if it is to maximise the gains available from electrifying the country’s transport fleet, Concept Consulting says.Other right-hand drive markets NZ currently imports from — notably Japan and the UK — have already announced bans effective in 2035 and 2030 respectively, Concept said in a joint study with renewable transport consultancy Retyna.Car and truck makers are rapidly expanding their electric and hybrid ranges and without such a ban NZ risks b...
