Auckland tumbles, Southland rises to top spot in ASB regional scoreboard

Southland has dethroned Auckland in ASB's latest regional scoreboard as the southern region's construction and housing sectors boom.According to the bank's Regional Economic Scoreboard for the first quarter of the year, Southland rose from 11th to the top of the leaderboard, knocking out Auckland, which fell four places to 5th equal.It said Southland’s construction and housing sectors surged during the quarter, with construction consents increasing by 53.3% year-on-year.ASB senior economist Chris Tennent-Brown said the region...
