A family-owned private developer has put forward a competing vision to develop a major inland port and industrial hub connected by rail to Port Otago.Calder Stewart, which was founded by Bruce Stewart and Lance Calder in 1965 in the small Otago town of Milton, is controlled by Stewart Family Holdings, which says it is the largest industrial landowner in New Zealand.The group owns most of a 200-hectare site in Milburn, south of Dunedin, where it already has offices and a 10,000sq m steel fabrication facility. Now the company is pitching the...
