Methanex cuts production as gas supply tightens

Methanex has cut production amid weak regional methanol prices and reduced gas supplies from the Pohokura field. The firm, which operates two production units at Motunui and another at its Waitara Valley site, appears to have shut one of the Motunui units after running it at reduced load for much of June. Methanex is one of the country’s biggest exporters with more than 95 percent of its production shipped internationally for use as a clean-burning fuel or to make everything from plastics to fabrics, building products and solar panels.
