Freightways intervenes in courier driver contracting case

Freightways is getting involved in another company’s employment dispute because it is concerned it might set a precedent on whether courier drivers are independent contractors. The company has received permission from the Employment Court to intervene in the dispute between Parcel Express and its former worker Mika Leota. The hearing starts today in Auckland before chief judge Christina Inglis and is expected to last three days. According to court documents, Leota says he was an employee of Parcel Express and that he was unjustif...
