An investigation of power pricing during December’s South Island floods may help resolve long-standing issues in the wholesale electricity market, Meridian Energy says. The Electricity Authority believes wholesale charges that month may have been $80 million higher than they needed to be because of the way Meridian priced its output while spilling water from its South Island dams.
