Gas supply for electricity in danger of running out by 2026
If gas field investment dries up, so will gas supply, threatening the electricity sector.

In the worst-case scenario, New Zealand will not have gas available to ensure electricity security of supply by 2026, the sector regulator has warned.The Gas Industry Company said if there was more investment in existing fields to eke out reserves, then the system should be able to get through to 2035.Energy and resources minister Megan Woods asked the Gas Industry Co (GIC) to look at the gas supply in the context of the government’s net carbon by 2050 and 100% renewable electricity generation by 2030 targets.This came as reduced gas avai...
