The Government needs to find $1 billion a year in extra revenue from 2027/28 to fund its transport priorities – the equivalent of a one-off hike of 17c a litre on top of already signalled fuel tax increases.The extra revenue is needed to meet expenditure targets in the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport (GPS) and, as the Ministry of Transport stressed, it's likely to be raised from a combination of sources, not the hypothetical one-off fuel tax hike.Transport Minister Simeon Brown released the finalised GPS in late June, se...
