Neither Meridian Energy nor Contact Energy see any window of opportunity to save the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter despite the smelter's chief executive saying it exists. And Meridian expressed confidence both it and the rest of the electricity sector will adjust well to the smelter's closure but wouldn't be drawn on whether it will now delay development of its Harapaki wind farm northwest of Napier.
