The Government is being advised to swap New Zealand’s net zero 2050 target for net negative emissions.The Climate Change Commission (CCC) also wants to lift the minimum reduction in agricultural methane emissions from 24% to 35% and add emissions from aviation and shipping to the ledger.Climate Change Minister Simon Watts released two reports on Dec 5; the first was on the CCC’s first review of the 2050 target.The second was to advise the Government on setting the fourth emissions budget covering the five years from 2036 to 2040.
