The owner of Wellington's Portofino restaurant has tried to claim his English wasn’t good enough in a bid to clarify evidence in a rent stoush with Stride Property.  Stride was the Italian restaurant's landlord, and Portofino claimed it was entitled to a new lease of 12 years from December 2020 or losses of $8.9 million. Portofino Wellington Waterfront Limited claimed an offer for a new lease was emailed, but Stride rejected a claim that it misrepresented the deal. At a hearing on June 12, Portofino sought to file s...
