Maritime NZ has brought charges against Ports of Auckland (POAL) and an unnamed individual almost a year after the death of port worker Pala’amo (Amo) Kalati. Kalati, a 31-year-old father of seven, was crushed by a container aboard a ship at the Fergusson container terminal in the early hours of August 30 last year, one of four deaths associated with the port in recent years. Maritime NZ, which investigates vessel-based incidents, yesterday filed multiple charges in Auckland District Court under the Health and Safety at Work Act...
