The Supreme Court of New Zealand may have the last say on whether Uber drivers are employees or contractors. Uber’s appeal will be heard by five judges, including Chief Justice Helen Winkelmann, on July 8 and 9. Backed by unions E tū and First Union, four drivers successfully took a case against the ridesharing and food-delivery company to the Employment Court in 2022. In August last year, the Court of Appeal affirmed the Employment Court's decision, by finding that the drivers were employees.Employees enjoy certain sta...
